Oakland’s Block by Block cleaning and maintenance team kicked off a summer youth program on Monday, June 27, to teach the importance of responsible work habits and the fundamentals of being a valued employee in today’s workplace. Three eager-to-learn participants between the ages of 16 to 20 have the opportunity to dive into the Block by Block program to help keep Oakland’s commercial district vibrant. Bill Stapleton, Operations Manager of Oakland’s Block by Block division, is happy to lead the charge on this initiative and proud of the newly installed program.
“Our goal is to run this program every summer from now on; bringing even more aboard! I feel that what we accomplish with it is essential to the Oakland business district,” said Bill. The program is the result of a collaborative between the Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board (3RWIB), a community leader ensuring that the current and future needs of businesses and job seekers are met, and the City of Pittsburgh, with a strong goal to employ over 1,000 youths. “This youth program really promotes community development from inside Block by Block. I’ve always wanted to be a part of something like this that strengthens the future workforce.”
