Icy Lights

March 1, 2019 | 4 p.m. - 10 p.m.

The Oakland Business Improvement District invites you to “curl” up for a winter themed block party celebration: “Icy Lights.” This event will take place on Friday, March 1st, 2019 in the Central Oakland business district from 4:00PM to 10:00PM, on Oakland Avenue between Forbes Avenue and Sennott Street.

The Icy Lights event will showcase Oakland’s newest festival style lighting installation that spans across Oakland Avenue, adding warmth and brightness to one of Pittsburgh’s most vibrant retail and restaurant corridors. This celebration will be the first of its kind, bringing unique fun and exciting entertainment, including live bands, a DJ, live ice carving, and, for the first time in Pittsburgh, street curling.

For curling enthusiasts, look no farther than Oakland for a chance to participate in the next best thing: street curling along a 30’ long track on Oakland Avenue. “Icy Lights” guests will meet our local Pittsburgh Pro’s Alexander and Nicholas Visnich from the University of Pittsburgh to teach curling technique. Organize a team and get into the rink to compete or watch celebrity competitions throughout the day. In addition, Iceburgh from the Pittsburgh Penguins and Roc from the University of Pittsburgh are scheduled to attend and compete in a curling match for the ages!

Between participating in all of the activities, OBID invites the guests of “Icy Lights” to take a break in our warming lounge areas while sipping on a complimentary beverage. Additional food and libations will also be available for purchase. Each hour, OBID will also announce prize giveaways such as tickets to Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.

For a night of frozen fun you will not forget, step under the Oakland Avenue lights!

OBID thanks the Icy Lights sponsors: Gordon Food Service, Pittsburgh innovation District, Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, Pittsburgh Brewing Company, WYEP/WESA, UPMC, and the University of Pittsburgh.

The Event is FREE and open to the public.
