Yesterday, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration along with Carnegie Mellon University organized a Public meeting to share the design plans and schedule for the Forbes Avenue Betterment Project (Forbes Avenue from Birmingham Bridge to Beeler Street) and the Oakland/CMU Forbes Corridor Safety Improvements Project (Forbes Avenue from South Craig to Margaret Morrison Streets). Proposed project items include repaving of roadway, restriping of crosswalks, upgrading all pedestrian signals to audible signals, replacing up to three traffic signals in between Halket and South Bouquet streets, installing bike lanes on each side of the road from South Craig to Margaret Morrison Streets and placing six new traffic signals from South Craig Street to Margaret Morrison Street. The work is scheduled to be bid out in November 2017 with construction beginning in 2018. For more information go to: http://pedestrianstudy.otmapgh.org/
At this time, there are no proposed plans to change traffic patterns for the stretch spanning from the Birmingham Bridge to Bigelow Boulevard. OBID will continue to update our members on the project progress and we will work with our partners to organize future meeting opportunities and to gage OBID member feedback.
