- Set up a booth at the Oakland Farmers Market (Every Friday through October, 3pm-6pm in Schenley Plaza)
- Participate in the Let’s Go Pitt Program
- Give us information to share through our weekly Noteworthy News email that reaches more than 1,500 people
- Share an image or quick bit of information for us to promote through our Only in Oakland Facebook and Twitter pages, reaching over 2,250 fans and followers
- Participate in promotions and events organized by the OBID throughout the year
All of these opportunities are completely FREE to OBID Members! If you are interested in participating in any or all of the above, please contact Mary, firstname.lastname@example.org, 412-683-6243 ext. 19.
The OBID has received Art Commission approval for the purchase and installation of six sidewalk planters to be placed along Forbes Avenue. The planters, Quartz Series, manufactured by Kornegay Design, will add a sculptural element with softening greenery to the pedestrian environment. The Quartz Series has been met with an enthusiastic response from our partners, and we look forward to this new design element.
The purchase and installation of these planters has been made possible through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Neighborhood Assistance Tax Credit Program with investment from Dollar Bank, PNC Bank and UPMC Health Plan, in addition to support from The Oakland Kiwanas Club and Community Human Services Corporation.
The OBID has partnered with Sestili Nursery to install and maintain our planters. Sestili nursery, based right here in Oakland, has been responsible for the planting and maintenance of our hanging baskets along Forbes Avenue. Ron Sestili, owner, has been an invaluable partner for the OBID, assisting in planting selections and designs and in determining maintenance scheduled for the installations. The OBID cleaning crew is on the streets seven days per week ensuring that Oakland stays clean and green, removing approximately 2,000 pounds of trash per month! In addition to the most visible component of our program, the OBID crew provides several services that have a big impact on the neighborhood.
Our Pressure Washer is capable of removing grease, gum, grime and dirt from sidewalks. So far this year our crew has used it to clean over 50 storefronts and to clean frequently around our trash cans to remove and prevent buildup.
Details are not left unnoticed by our crew members. They remove stickers and graffiti from all public infrastructure, including telephone poles, utility boxes, trash cans and newspaper racks. Additionally, they remove weeds from the public right-of-way on a routine basis. The OBID cleaning crew strives to keep every inch of our business district clean and green!
